Putting this one up earlier than usual as i think there might be a few differences of opinions on this game as regards who should start? who should be on the bench? play our best 11? play some of the kids? The main reason these questions come up now is because of the final in the lge cup 3 days later. I’m torn as to what’s best for both games, do we start the same team as the first leg and hope to get the job done that way? do we drop some of our first teamers in order to keep them fresh for the final and play some of the kids? Some big decisions to be made by klopp this week.

We’re at home, the tie is 0-0, we simply can’t afford to concede the first goal, we do that and they’ll park the bus and we all know how difficult we find it to break through a parked bus, almost impossible going by this season alone. We have to attack right from the off and for me that means we start all our attack minded players and we know who they are, hendo, Can, firmino, coutinho, studge and i’ll add moreno to that list even though he’s our LB but he only knows one direction and that’s forward. I’d love us to rest these players and save them for the final but this game is just as important imo as if we get past augsburg it’s one step closer to a possible CL spot for next season. So, with all this in mind, my team for thursday night would be,

migs

clyne   toure  sakho  moreno

lucas

Can       hendo

firmino    studge    coutinho

We know klopp is taking the EL seriously and it’s a big european game at anfield, okay, it’s not a quarter or semi final but i still think the supporters will give us a great atmosphere. We get through this tie and it’s one step closer to a possible CL spot for next season and i think we’re all agreed that the EL is our best chance of achieving that. There’s no traveling involved between this game and the final so give the players the friday off and then head to london on saturday for the final on sunday and god willing we head into that final full of confidence after securing our place in the next round of the EL.

I would tend to play our strongest defence (Clyne/Toure/Sakho/Moreno) in both matches, unless we have injuries of course, and I don’t think we can get away with starting a front three of Firmino/Sturridge/Coutinho in both matches (we can always make substitutions with Origi and Benteke in both games as needs be). Where I would say Klopp could make changes between the matches is in midfield. Henderson is still in questionable condition so he might just play one of the matches. Lucas may be brought in if Klopp decides he wants to be more defensive. Can will probably play in both matches but Klopp could possibly rotate with Milner and Lallana (I take it Allen’s still injured) if legs are flagging. Other than that I think the team pretty picks itself for both games.

Teixera for Hendo, Divock for Firminho

Play the defence as Reduncle suggests. Then have a mixture of studge, the count, maybe Ibe/Allana mix and match with the teams mid field, and have as strong a bench as possible. Not going to over worry about it. If we are goi g to win the game then it s already written. Same on Sunday if our name is on that cup then we will win it.

Ibe is always dribbling getting through players but failing to cross the ball or losing the ball at the last minute. Lallana does the same.

It’s a nice problem to have. Only a few weeks ago anyone who could stand was getting a game. I’d rest Henderson, Coutinho and Sturridge for Augsburg with the latter 2 on the bench in case they are needed but I have confidence that Klopp will make the right decisions.

If we rest Sturridge, we won’t score. If we don’t score, we don’t win.

I agree with resting Sturridge and and Hendo but I wouldn’t rest Cou he would start both games imo. I would also rest Can he was poor in the first leg, I would start Tex and Ibe on Thursday along with Lucas

From my observations, Emre Can is the sort of player who if he didn’t play well in the first leg, will step up a notch in the second leg. I think if he plays Augsburg at Anfield, it will be a different Emre Can this time around! And we need that!

I would not risk Studdge, we can start with Origi .. good thing is we had enough rest compare to the previous months … Klopp will rotate the players efficiently … common reds let’s move forward in the EL and win the finals….. 😎

I would start both Studge and Origi and take them off after we get the goals…at half time?

Btw this is live on BT sport Europe and setanta. Which I am peed off about BT have moved BT sport Europe and BT sports 1 onto the UK spot beam so I can’t get them in Spain now. I can still get setanta so happy days for this match.

Maybe the FA and PL should work harder to accommodate teams in the Europa League because we are going to need to do well in the EL to get UEFA coefficients up again because it doesn’t look like PL clubs in the CL arent going to boost it

Yes, and the other thing is if we look at the Europa this year, there are teams like Schalke, Dortmund, Porto, Manure,Villareal,Sevilla, Leverkeusen in there. Would be a very, very difficult competition to win with these teams around, some have been demoted from the CL.

On a related note of European games, hopefully Yaya did his game today and won’t show up this weekend. And maybe Silva used up his goal (I’d pray the same for Aguero for he seems to have a bag full of them).
So let’s build some momentum with a win tomorrow and hope it pays off this weekend

Momentum is important. City have it now after their good win in Kiev and we need to do the same tonight against Augsburg. Players need to be totally concentrated on this match and get the job done. No extra time please!

Again, we’ve done everything but score, in open play. We look just on the cusp of slaughtering the opposition but we can’t seem to find that last 1% needed. It’s been fascinating and frustrating in equal parts.

RedUncle, your post above EXACTLY sums up what I have been feeling about the Reds for some time now! Actually since our very successful (or nearly) 2014 season when we scored 100 goals! How do we get back to that level?

I’m worried this is the best we’ve played for a long time but we need some luck in front of goal and their keeper surely can’t keep this luck going the whole match. Come on redmen.

Jeese that was close from their set piece…. we still lead 1-0

5 minutes time added on and where did they come from?

That’s it 1-0 at home and 1-0 on aggregated score and we’re through the last 16 first time in 5 years in the EL. Credit to Augsburg for getting this far at it has been said it’s their first time in Europe. We shall see the last 16 draw coming up this week and hope Scum loses their tie soon tonight.

Most important game of the season is the Cup and that is the next stop this forth coming Sunday.

Phew, glad that one’s over. There’s a strong feeling of de ja vu though, so often we get all the build up play right but we just can’t get it in the net. The passing play between the front three was great and the midfielders were linking with them well, we just can’t find that elusive goal. I don’t know whether to be hopeful or concerned…

Realspanishred

Well I will tell you what Augsburg are not as bad a team as many made them out to be, they rode their luck at times and their keeper kept them in the game. They nearly stole it at the very end though. Why can’t we keep the ball. Gary Breen was doing my head in on Setanta. We should have won comfortably though.

Realspanishred

Yes mate I have no doubt we will get chances against city and I’m hoping city don’t get the luck Augsburg did. I thought our front three of Sturridge Coutinho and Firmino gelled really good, I’m really looking forward to Sunday now, I have a good feeling.

Mancs 1-1 at half time. I can’t spell the Danish teams name but come on. Lol

Can’t wait for the next draw , hope we get the manacs and beat the **** out of them and make sure that they never get to CL next season…

I was impressed by the Augsburg goalkeeper. If we can’t get Ter Stegen in the summer perhaps he should be considered. He’s been voted the best in the Bundesleage this season so far. Does anyone know how old he is?

I was wondering when this would come up. Why do guys always seem to have a great night against us?
I had the same thought but then my mind turned to Bogdan.
But if this guy is keeper of the Bundesliga, that’s a different story.
Sprechen sie LFC, Hitz?
