Dani Alves has chipped in already by saying: “football is about living in the moment, Liverpool have history but Coutinho should be at a UCL quality club, he has the quality to play for Barcelona”.

Personally I think coutinho is a good kid and will likely remain loyal, but with speculation starting already he could be tested this summer.

Although he’s gone missing when needed most at times the Brazilian is considered one of our best players. Losing I’m would prove a significant loss and also put out a bad statement as to the ambitions of the club.

Thoughts?

He sold Firmino on coming here. And hopefully he himself is sold on being a big part of the evolution and Revolution under Klopp.
We should be able to increase top player wages now so only CL and Barca/Real (to Latin players) should be the concern to lose most players.
I wouldn’t want to lose him because I think when he and Origi and Firmino and Sturridge and Lallana are on it is very attractive and dangerous football. I’m not sure of his age but I think he’s only around 24? So he should still grow into a more consistent performer.
I guess it depends on the length remaining of his contract. If his head is turned, could Klopp sell him on staying at least one more year to see what happens like Gerrard did with Suarez?

I think the club should take a stand and refuse to sell if approached. Coutinho is on a long contract and seems settled at Liverpool. A lot will depend on how we progress next season with a CL place a minimum requirement. If we fail to achieve that Coutinho may not be the only player tempted to leave. However I’m optimistic that we will have a good season and by this time next year we will be in a better position to attract top players to the club and keep our better ones.

I don’t honestly think he is good enough to play for Barcelona yet. Yes, he has flashes of brilliance but can anyone see him performing at his best week after week? That’s what he’ll need to do if he goes to clubs like Barce or Real, otherwise the fans there will crush him. More to the point, Coutinho had two bites of the cherry to get Champions League football this season, via the Premier League and the Europa League, and performed inconsistently in both. He’s not in the Champions League, quite frankly, because he did not play well enough, regularly, to help Liverpool qualify. If a CL club comes in for him with wads of cash and he chooses to go there is little we can do to stop him but he won’t have earned the right to be there, he’ll be piggybacking on the success of other players who’ve got their club qualification. Whether Coutinho stays at Liverpool will be down to simple things like integrity, loyalty and belief – things that are lacking in football these days.

The point you make reminds me of Sterling. If Sterling had scored a few more goals that he most assuredly should have, LFC would’ve done better in CL the one year and could’ve qualified for CL the next, except for us dropping points and not making it because HE was the striker who couldn’t score.

Exactly. I’m fed up with players suddenly getting delusions of entitlement once they reach a perceived standard. There are a number of players in our current squad who probably believe they should be in the Champions League and they could well have been had they, collectively, played better throughout the season. The fact is that they didn’t so they don’t deserve to be there. Leicester earned their Champions League place and although a number of their players may be considered inferior to a number of ours each one of them has a much stronger argument for being included in a CL team than any of our squad. They performed consistently throughout the season and got their just rewards. Our players didn’t so they got what they deserved. If players like Coutinho jump ship they might get the chance of a CL medal but have they earned it? Nope.

I’m guessing that Coutinho doesn’t have that slimeball agent Aidy Ward that Sterling (& Sinclair???) have.
If he did I’d feel less confident of him staying

I agree sam, he’s not good enough at this moment to play for the likes of barca, madrid, munic and the like, he would be a bench warmer at best so he would be well advised to stay put where he’s a garrenteed starter but of course if he wants to keep his butt warm on a bench that’s his choice and unfortunately LFC can’t stop him, player power could strike us again this summer.

Friends and mates ,we are living a big transformation with the so called modern football. In the past decades we saw how sports had transformed in business with big sum of money are involved. IMO , am the 3rd generation to support LFC and my grand child will be the 5th ,in the best ,good and worst moments we were always backing and will always do. For me now days only fans and supporters are loyal ,others are actors. Am not surprise with no euro game next season the rich clubs will chase our best players.

The truth of that is we do the same if we are in CL and there’s a stud on a team who isn’t in CL. We try to lure them with that carrot.
I just agree with Uncles point about our players mostly not deserving it

I think he will stay this season, may be if we don’t make it to CL next season he might join the likes of Barca, Bayern or PSG but even if he had to join them he has to perform much better than 15-16 season, it’s kind of win win situation for us…

It’s that old chestnut again, loyalty, is there any of it left in the football world today, not a lot. Will coutinho stay loyal to us, if we had won the EL i’d have no doubt he would have but i’m 50-50 on it now. We can only hope that klopp can persuade him to stay, that’s of course if he needs persuading. We have a fantastic chance to achieve big things next season as we have no european football to contend with and other clubs will be in transition with new managers onboard, city, manure and chelsea to name but a few. The count should stick around for at least another season and help us achieve big things and the first of those big things has to be to get back to the CL and whilst doing that we could be going for the title just like in the 13-14 season, of course if a player wants to leave there’s nothing we can do about that but if he see’s the bigger picture he will still be at LFC next season.

Apparently LFC rejected a £23m bid from PSG.
Insulting

Coutinho scored a hat-trick for Brazil against Haiti yesterday so he’ll be even more in demand now. On the positive side that has added a few million to his value.

Apparently, Barca are offering £47m, but after the hat-trick that he scored for Brazil, we should hold out for a darn sight more (that’s if we are stupid enough to sell him!!!)

This speculation could go into overdrive now Brazil are out of the Copa America. I think the Club will be desperate to hold on to him for at least another season and the good news is that now he should be able to get in a full pre-season.
