A great result at Anfield tonight leaves the red just 6 points off 4th. It’s still a tall order but given how crazy the league has been this season there’s every chance it could still be achieved.

I had the pleasure of meeting our very own Ickyuk today, and also the Warrior himself who was over for the game, I’m sure he’s suffering an English ale or 2 as I type!

I thought I’d give him a match post off, given he’s kindly held the fort for much of the season, time get’s the better of me pretty often but it’s good to know the Kopfans community will always look after the place, thanks people!

All members are welcome to start a match post previewing the next game, just check for any existing posts and be sure to type the title in a similar format to this post. Next season I’ll put a better system in place for this.

Onto Palace then. After a great start under Pardew, their season seems to have took a dip and they’re not so high flying right now. Let’s not get carried away though, recent history has shown this is a difficult game for us and there’s every chance it’ll be there bounce back match.

The lineup is not so predictable given the return from injury of several players but I’d go for something like:

squad

That’s the hardest team I’ve had to pick in a while, MIlner & Lallana played great tonight but I struggled to fit them in. If it wasn’t for Henderson being captain I’m not sure I’d pick him ahead of Milner, thoughts?

Skrtel has been on the bench for a few games and I guess the Toure/Lovren partnership tonight means we’ll see Sakho/Skrtel this weekend. I’ve put Flanno in too, it worked tonight and I think he’s much more intelligent and balanced than Moreno.

Start Origi? Yes I think he makes a difference, Sturridge seems to be playing very deep since his return, a strange move and a bad one in my opinion. Origi sticks up top and it’s with a striker in place we play our best football, when he come on in the cup final it made a huge difference. I’d like to see a 442 with Origi and Sturridge someday but it’d be a big tactical switch.

I’ve got to predict a result now I guess, I fancy this and against all odds I’m going for a 2-0 win at Selhurst Park.

Yeah Jamie, we owe CP a big time, that defeat still hurts, gottu stick it to them and push them down the table.. it will be a very tough game for us ….

Your selection is very neat, Flanno is a solid defender, he respects the defending position than Moreno, so there is no need for other players who are committed to track back…

We need to be very careful about their set pieces, get an early goal and defend well, see off the game…. common reds YNWA…

Flanno can’t play in the Europa so he needs to start at Palace if he has recovered ok from last night. Palace’s full backs are not very effective going forward so I would be tempted to play the diamond here, with two strikers up front possibly Sturridge and Benteke. The latter might be useful for defending set pieces. I would play Milner ahead of Henderson purely to give the latter a rest as he is having to play through considerable discomfort.

I expect I’ll be slated for mentioning Benteke but if he’s going to be used over the rest of the season this might be the game for him.

This club has given us problems of late. Be nice to overcome that mental block and take three points.

What an up and down week this has been.I don’t think we played that bad in the final but what a contrast to last night. I find it really difficult to post after a defeat but to lose on penalties is hard to take. So on to Sunday, why do we have to keep saying this is a must win game, if we had won the previous must win games we wouldn’t be where we are. I do like your team Jamie and the logic in your selection and Klopp may well think the same, me personally I would go with the same team. The players who played last night deserve to play against palace simply for the effort they put in to secure a much welcomed 3 points. Huytonion yes you are right about being slated for mentioning Benteke if I ever see him start another game for us I will think Klopp has lost it. With the same effort on Sunday we should secure the 3 points which could potentially have us within 3 points of top 4 but being Liverpool it never works that way. I hope you are right about the 2-0 Jamie, I am going… Read more »

The big question is can we repeat that performance again? Every time we have a really good game the next one is a let down so all I want to see, whatever team we put out, is us playing at a similar level. A quick look at results shows we haven’t won three league games in a row since last February (hard to believe, I know) but a win against Palace will be a third successive win. We need this win just to build some momentum. I read a really good article showing how well Origi created space for other players in the City game so I’d have no problem with him starting the Palace game. Even if he didn’t score himself there’s a good chance he’d help create opportunities for other players, as long as the likes of Milner, Firmino and Lallana were not too deep. I think the situation with Henderson is one of persistence. He ruptured the offending tissue in his foot before Christmas, something that needed to happen before he could recover, and from what I’ve heard playing is the next stage in his recovery. He was better against City at Anfield than he was at… Read more »

Red uncle in response to Origi this is the sort-of play that deserves an assist. I thought Origi was superb on Wednesday, he worked his socks off and held the ball up well to allow others to get forward. He was an unsung hero imo and so deserves a start against palace in place of Sturridge who is still looking a bit rusty.

RedUncle

The good thing was that there were many players who really contributed to that win, it wasn’t just one or two standout performers. The nice thing about Origi is that for a young player he isn’t afraid to really get involved in and around the box so he keeps defenders occupied. He also makes intelligent runs creating space for the other attackers. Because of this he’s useful to play in an attacking pair or as the single attacker in a 4-2-3-1 formation where the attacking midfielders drive into the space he creates, such as Milner did against City. Whether we start with Sturridge, Origi or both is up to Klopp but after seeing how Origi has dovetailed with the other attacking players lately I feel far more comfortable with him being a regular first team player.

I agree mate with 90% of our players fit I’m really not fussed which team he picks. I’m just hoping it was because of our injuries we were suffering poor form.

Tell ye what jay, did we celebrate that night, one of my best nights in liverpool, got totaly smashed but a great night was had, great to see you and phil again, cheers mate.

Love your team, i’d have flanno in ahead of moreno all day long, flanno had a great game against city and is getting back to the player he was before his injury. I’d like to drop hendo and put milner in, milner has been playing very well of late and also had a great game against city but i can’t see klopp dropping our captain but i don’t see why not, other than that i love that team.

I fancy us to get 3 points in this game, with the cup final defeat put to bed on Wednesday night with a very solid performance I fancy us to kick on & get the win. Important rests to the magician & DS in mid week gives us quite a healthy squad to pick from & also you have a place up for grabs in the Europa game against the *****. I’m hoping we can kick on from Wednesday & put in a good shift for the rest of the season but like Red Uncle said many a times we’ve been brought back down to earth after a convincing display. I am confident of the win thou on Sunday. Anyone know what’s the situation with Brad smith?? Because he’d start for me Thursday all day long before Moreno.

KLOPPite

I’d lean towards Milner over Hendo and rest his foot for recovery. Not a slight to have the Vice take his role.
Origi opens space while Benteke seems to stagnate it. With the three technical water bugs we have behind him, that is so crucial to allow them to scurry all over.
Where his advantage over Sturridge is lies with his strength. The boy is built like a man. Of course Sturridge is a way better finisher and has that moment of magic in him.
I think those two a lethal pairing next year, and Ings a great hard working fighter to compliment.

Lucas is out for five to six weeks after tweaking a thigh taking a penalty in the cup final. Talk about bad luck…

Like the look of the team, but agree might start Millie, and rest hendo, defo play flano if he can’t play Europa, which is a shame as he would give us some bite at the back. Still nice to have the amount of choice in the team now,

Nice top up, was impress with the last home game against the Citizens ,we played one of the best football, there were everything in the game ,they defend well, creative, running, speed, and more important scoring goals ,but, following this LFC team this season we cant wait that they will play the same as their last game . LFC are inconsistent ,the team and players lacked on putting a winning momentum, we have enough players to build a better team but this lack of confidence put us in the mid table team category. For the match against CPalace ,Imo, Origi is not the player who could turn a match in our favor when in difficulties, knowing very well palace, they will put us in difficulties from the beginning, instead I would play Milner in a 3 midfield ,with CAN as DM , Hendo and Milner as CMWinger , 2attacking mid, Firmino and Couti the builder and who will create attacking action in front for the sole striker ,Sturidge. MY TEAM ,4-3-2-1. Migs. Flanno- Skrtel- Lovren- Clyne. Hendo- Can- Milner. Firmino- Coutino. Sturidge. CPalace owe us some important points ,they were responsible for the miss of the title 2013/14. Palace is the… Read more »

If we make sure Moreno is no where near the team we will win. I used to like Moreno but his defending is horrendous.

KLOPPite

Spanish, what do you base that on? No one has seen much of his defending of late to be able to judge it

Realspanishred

Exactly

Realspanishred

We were so much more solid in defence with Flannagan and Cline against two of the better wingers in the league. Moreno is so prone to be found in the opposition half when he is supposed to be in ours. Funnily enough I like Moreno but for the above reasons he shouldn’t play full back.

Realspanishred

Maybe we should convert Moreno to a number 10 so we can play a full team of number 10s lol

sandiphulse

Mate last night he played like an attacking Midfielder , winger except as a defender … 😛 , if Real Madrid is looking for him , how about we swap him with Jesse Rodriguez, keep Flanno as LB and Clyne at RB , that would solve our problems, but the shot he took against palace yesterday which hit the post … was brilliant… my love and hate towards him continues….

Realspanishred

I’m the same sandiphulse his new name is marmite 🙂

Realspanishred

If Smith is fit and Flanno needs a rest then Smith would be my choice before Moreno. I’m hoping for the same team as started against City but I expect Sturridge and Cou to start.

HAMNUM8

Liverpool: Mignolet, Flanagan, Lovren, Sakho, Moreno, Can, Henderson, Milner, Lallana, Firmino, Origi. Subs: Ward, Clyne, Toure, Benteke, Coutinho, Sturridge, Allen.

HAMNUM8

Looks like Klopp fancies Flanno on bolasie not sure why Moreno is starting especially if it’s on the right he’s been bad enough on the left. If he is starting at left back he’ll have his work cut out against bolasie. Maybe he wants to give game time to Moreno for the Europa game because Flanno is not in the euro squad.

HAMNUM8

Sorry my bad Flanno will start right back anyway. Just hope Moreno now knows his place isn’t nailed on!

warrior18

Only klopp knows why moreno starts hammo, everybody else is wondering why. I would rather see smith at LB and play flanno at RB but hey, who am i to 2nd guess the gaffer.

Realspanishred

I wasn’t worried before, but now I am. I really don’t know what Klopp sees in Moreno, he is a liability especially against Palace. Hopefully I am wrong and he plays a blinder scoring the sixth goal for us.

Not one shot on target during that half and it all feels very fragmented. Mignolet’s done well to keep us level. It’ll be interesting to see what Klopp does after halftime.

That’s it we finally stopped them for winning a fourth consecutive game against us. Frustrating hard game but we made it in the end. Three points claimed and we’re not far from the top four and three behind manure. Speaking of them smell lot… next stop is against them at Anfield in the Europa League.

Realspanishred

I can’t believe we’ve won that. I think it was a pen, stupid decision by the defender. We did well with ten men, Milner so clumsy, Lovren was brilliant. Cp hoodoo gone yahoo.

That was the game of the season for me, sweet revenge , I hope they get relegated from now on, I cannot forget what they have done to us……

Huytonian

We only seemed to start playing once we were down to 10 men. Great response though, even if we were gifted the goals. Great performances from Lovren and Sakho. Also Can is starting to settle into that central midfield position. A rare word of praise also for Moreno who gave a good account of himself against the tricky Saha and was unlucky with the shot that came back off the post. He only seems to perform after he’s been dropped so leaving him out on Wednesday did him good. Lets hope he can maintain that form against United.

Realspanishred
Member

Haha Moreno most including me wanted him nowhere near the team credit where it’s due he had a good game, it still doesn’t excuse his brain farts in previous weeks though. I have also slated Can lately but he also stepped up the last two games. He was boss today. Flanno went missing and deserved to get hooked but so did Hendo he was really bad and should get dropped against the scum on Thursday. Great weekend 3 points behind the scum with our Derby game in hand. It’s not over till the fat lady sings.

Koped49

Our defence always seems to tighten up when Kolo is in it. Not saying he does any thing special, but he never lets us down. He talks to the others and it’s the only time it happens is when he is there, oh no it also happened when Lucas was there, that’s what we have missed since carra retired. Any way well done lads great fight back, especially with ten men.

Koped49

Oh and the the scum lost, long may it continue, haha.

warrior18

Didn’t get to see the game today but to go 1-0 down and a man down to come back and win 2-1 shows great charactor. Am i reading correctly that moreno had a good game, wonders will never cease, still reckon he’ll be shipped out this summer. Delighted with the win, we now go into our EL game with our beloved red half of scumchester full of confidence, especialy after their defeat today, please god we can get some revenge on that shower over these two legs and knock those things out.

Realspanishred

Yes mate Moreno did have a good game, he harassed Zaha all game rendering him a non entity, it seemed they were targeting Flanno due to the fact he was up against Adebayor not an easy task for any defender, the good thing was Klopp noticed it as well and hooked Flanno bringing on Toure which did the trick. Hendo also struggled until Milner went off and the whole game changed in our favour. A deserved victory imo despite what some might say. Origi put pressure on their keeper causing him to pass to Firmino who finished it brilliantly and a great through ball from Hendo to Benteke causing a brain **** from their defender for the penalty. Three points, up to 7th 3points behind the scum with a game in hand.
