The game we’ve all been waiting for, a trip to dortmund, what a test this game will be for our lads. As far as i can see there are no fresh injury concerns for us so i’m expecting a similar team to the spurs game, firmino may not be involved as he’s recovering from a ham so i’m hoping klopp goes with two up front to try and get that all important away goal. I’ll get straight to my team which i think almost picks itself,

migs

clyne    sakho   lovren  moreno

Can          hendo

coutinho

Origi      sturridge     lallana

Something along this team should give us a great chance to get a result in this game, if we can bring back a score draw to anfield i think that would be a fantastic result. Best of luck tonight redmen.

Important to get at least 1 away goal to keep the tie alive!! 😉

I’m not sure if Firmino is fit enough to start so it could be the same team as against Spurs. Origi could replace Sturridge because of his greater work-rate and better link up play but on the other hand Sturridge is more likely to get us that vital away goal. I expect we will see both of them at some stage but I wouldn’t like to decide which of them starts.

All the pre-match articles I have read seem to give us very little chance. Certainly we will have to be at our best to come away from Dortmund still in with a good chance in the second leg. However we have done better against the good sides so we have to believe we can do it. We shouldn’t fear them for what they did to Spurs as Spurs rested a lot of their best players in the away leg (and maybe in the home leg but I didn’t watch that one).

Whatever the outcome it should be a good measure of where we stand and how far we need to go to get competitive with the top European teams.

I heard Sturridge is not starting this game, Origi will be starting instead, the only difference is they have a proven striker who is in form, it will be a tactical battle, we just have hold on and stay determined till the last second and grind a victory… I am going for a bold prediction BVB 1 LFC 2 😛

The atmosphere is going to be deafening so it’s as much about our lads holding their nerve as anything else. If we play as a cohesive unit we’ll have a chance, if individual players have a horror show, like Sakho did against Spurs, I think we’ll get picked apart. Firmino did a full training session yesterday so there’s a good chance he’ll participate in the game to some degree. There has been lots of chatter that Sturridge will be dropped for Origi but it was always likely they’d both get on the pitch at some point so I wouldn’t blow it out of proportion. If we can handle the occasion and keep everything nice and compact we might get the draw, with a little bit of luck the win, but we’ll have to keep things tighter than we have been of late.

Sturridge dropped for Origi and Skrtel not even in the squad. Looks like Klopp means business…

Both sets of supporters with their rendition of YNWA was amazing… goosebumps. Unique for both teams and Supporters joined by one song.

Silly Can for receiving a Yellow card.

Only for Sakho we would have conceded at this moment. The beast is on fire… I wish the others would step up too

We are looking to hit them on the counter mate

i am thinking of that too because we’re up against a good side.

That should have been a yellow for Reus with his challenge on Clyne

That was a penalty against the count?

Origi should have scored that… this game has turned since we took the lead

That ends the first half… we have been a sleep a few occasions and Sakho there saving our bacon. A lot of misplaced passes and silly challenges that has earned us 2 yellow cards. The game turned up the tempo since we scored and should had added two more to the account.

I hope Klopp gives the lads a rollicking and with these words “Come on guys you are embarrassing me in my home town.” Second half to come up and hope we can defend this 1-0 lead or add more to the list.

Nice to see our centrebacks have turned up tonight. To me it looks like we’re just rushing things a little which is why we’re losing possession too easily. The occasion could be be making us a bit uneasy, we just need to keep hold of the ball and make Dortmund work to win it. We have the advantage now so we don’t need to take big risks.

Allen replaces Henderson due that he has received a knock in the first half.

1-1 another set piece let’s us down again… therefore I am not surprised.

OMG that did not go in… brilliant play

Firmino replaces Lallana

Sturridge replaces Origi… maybe there is a goal to come from him?

It was a great result when up against a good team… My man of the match goes to the beast Sakho.

I am not concerned about the game this weekend against Stoke (99.9% chances I will change my mind :D) … we should rest our most important players for the second leg and an away goal to protect as well

Anyway next stop at Anfield on Sunday against the Potters.

Great fighting spirit tonight, think that will get even better as time goes on

That was a great performance in terms of commitment and fighting spirit though we could have done with greater composure on the ball at times. I’m really starting to like Origi. He’s only 20 so loads of time to develop but he has all the attributes to become a top centre forward. He needs to add more goals to his game – he isn’t such a natural goalscorer as Sturridge but time is on his side. Harry Kane wasn’t a great goalscorer at Origi’s age but look at him now. It’s about making the right runs, taking up the right positions and most of all confidence in your finishing. We know Origi can strike a good shot and he’s decent in the air so he can finish, it’s just a matter of working on his game and he seems a hard working lad.

You’re right Origi will end up a very good player

What is it about set pieces and our defensive set up. We must have lost more goals to set pieces than we have in open play

If I’m being honest, before the match I thought a good result would be a low-scoring loss because given how well Dortmund have been playing this season a win looked unlikely. To come away with a one all draw is a much more positive result than I imagined, it gives us something to work with in the second leg. A little while back I read some analysis on Daniel Sturridge that mentioned since his return from injury he has rarely made any full-throttle sprints, probably due to fear of injury. This could well be part of the reason why Origi started tonight, there were a number of balls hit behind the defence for him to use his pace to run onto and I don’t think Sturridge, in his current state, would’ve been so comfortable with this tactic. On the whole I thought our defence did well, Sakho and Lovren only had a couple of small lapses, but how lucky was Moreno? Flying in, both feet off the ground, at a player stood next to the corner flag. How he didn’t at least get booked I’ll never know, he was already on a previous yellow and would’ve been suspended for the… Read more »

Splendid draw with the precious away goal but Dortmund has shown itself to be quite dangerous on away trips where home sides try to go for the win and leave themselves open at the back for dangerous pair of Aubameyang-Mkhitaryan to score… Hope we nick the return leg with a 0-0 draw or a 2-1 win!! 😉

cfleejb can you imagine how our fans would cope with a 0-0 it would be unbearable. We have shown that tactically we can beat them. I would hope that Klopp goes into the second leg with the same attitude as the first, if we try to go at them full throttle I think we will lose. It was a great team performance set up perfectly by Klopp. Defence was great after a shaky start. Then the whole team seemed to wake up. A great finish from Origi. I am over the moon with the result but going on clear cut chances we could have scored a couple more, which says a lot about our performance. Once again a goal keeper has a great performance against us. This result and hopefully the return leg show we are not far away from being a top side.

Cfleejb I hope you are right with the 2-1 win and them getting their 1 in the 95th minute and 4 extra minutes on the board. I also couldn’t handle a 1-1 before extra time.

One of our problems, this season has been the fact that most of the time we couldn’t pass wind in a paper bag, or hold onto a ball in a ********!
The main thing, though is that we have the away goal!! it should’ve been more, but I’ll take coming back to Anfield aa square.
Now all we need to do is stop them from scoring!! (penalties, anyone???!!!) 😛

sandiphulse

No Musicman I can’t go through another shootout please, defensively we need to keep the same composure if not more… First of all let us salute all the players who were involved in that game that was some solid defensive performance, when our CBs put up a good show, Mignolet does not look that bad, in fact his reflexes were razor sharp , I would not comment too much about the goal we conceded imagine a team like Dortmund had to rely on a Set piece to score a goal at their home ground that pretty much sums up their attacking performance and our defensive performance.

With Joe Allen instead of Henderson, we would want to go with the same starting XI, however we want to bring in Firmino and Sturridge between 65th to 70 th minute that would give some serious trouble to their defenders

Don’t forget. Sakho played a blinder too! He was many peoples’ MOTM.
As for penalties? I’m totes with you on that. Couldn’t bear to go through that again. But, you know that we like to do things the hard way! 😛
