Liverpool have struggled to find a solid first-choice goalkeeper ever since Pepe Reina left the club in 2014 for Bayern Munich.

Jurgen Klopp has reportedly set his sights on Sevilla No. 1 Rico.

And Spanish newspaper ABC claim the Reds are keen to do a deal for the 23-year-old and are willing to offer £10.5million.

The report says Liverpool are keen to strengthen in goal with the added rigours of playing Champions League football this season.

Rico has experience on the European stage and was part of Sevilla's sides that won the 2014-15 and 2015-16 Europa League titles.

However, the Reds are not willing to match the keeper's £26m release clause and will kick negotiations off with a £10.5m offer.

Rico is reportedly not considering leaving Sevilla, however, ABC claim he could be tempted into leaving the La Liga side.

The successes of his compatriots David de Gea and Adrian in the Premier League will reportedly go some way to convincing him.

And he is said to be close with Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno who joined the Anfield club from Sevilla in 2014.

Rico made 47 appearances in all competitions for the Spanish side last term and is under contract until June 2019.

Unless this guy is in the same class as Courtois and DeGea I don’t see why we would want to add a new keeper to the squad. As well as Mignolet and Karius we also have Ward back from a successful loan at Huddersfield. Has anyone seen Rico play and if so is he any good? I would have thought left back and central defence are bigger priorities.

Definitely don’t see the need for a goalkeeper, migs was excellent for most of last season and deserves the number 1 slot, if klopp keeps ward onside next season rather than loan him back out then why do we need another keeper unless he has plans to loan either ward or karius out but i don’t see the point in that.
Like you say, a LB and a CB must be the priorities in this window, get that sorted first and then look at other positions but a goalkeeper would be bottom of my wish list.

Exactly a LB and a CB is our top priority and there’s not a whiff about those targets.

It’d be a bit unfair on Karius and Ward if another keeper was brought in. Ward was keen to be loaned back to Huddersfield but Klopp insisted he stay at Liverpool and Karius gave up a promising career in the Bundesliga to come here. If we’re going to keep promising young players at the club they should at least have a realistic chance of getting games. I think we’ve got a competitive group of keepers now who’ll keep each other on their toes, I can’t see the need for more.

Karius should had stayed in Germany and Ward will not enjoy warming the bench.
