I can’t see a match post for the Newcastle game so here goes.  Hope that’s ok with everyone.  Not sure what has happened to our chief scribe Warrior.  Hope he didn’t over celebrate the Everton victory.

Newcastle at home is a game we usually win fairly comfortably.  We owe them one for the 2-0 defeat earlier in the season at  St James Park.  That was a poor performance by us but the result could have been very different if Benteke had scored an early open goal, Moreno’s volley had not been wrongly ruled offside and Skrtel hadn’t miscued into his own net.

That was one of Newcastle’s few high points under McLaren but they look a different team under Rafa with good results against Swansea and City albeit on their own ground.  Like us they have a few injuries but I think we can expect a determined performance from them as they have their PL place at stake.

So what team should Klopp put out bearing in mind we have a vital away leg semi-final in the EL on Thursday at Villareal?  I don’t think he can afford to play such an inexperienced team was he did against Bournemouth and if he did and we were to lose would the other relegation threatened teams report us to the FA?

That said some players will be rested but I would keep the core of best players as follows:

Mignolet – he hardly needs a rest.  He could have spent Wednesday in a deckchair.

Flanagan, Lovren, Sakho, Smith – on the basis that Lovren and Saakho were hardly extended either.

Allen and Lucas – Allen should be fresh and Lucas needs game time

Milner, Lallana, Ibe – Milner is bionic, I’d rather risk Lallana than Coutinho and Ibe gets the nod over Ojo for his assists at Bournemouth.

Firmino as false number 9 to keep Sturridge fit for Thursday.

So there we are.  Klopp will probably have different ideas altogether and he knows best, but at least I’ve given you something to debate.

Firmino – He needs game time and we shouldn’t risk Sturridge (at least as a starter).

so there we are.  ‘ll pro

Thanks very much for kicking off the match post mate, all members are welcome to.

I’m with you on those selections and I’d say Klopp will be too 😉

Lol, oh i celebrated alright mate, i was just about to post a thread but like jamie said it’s open to everybody so more than happy you’ve started it.
I think klopp will mix it up here but not too much, we could still make that 4th spot if we win all our remaining games and some other results go our way. I think studge will play some part, he’s fast coming back to himself and scoring so we want that to continue, maybe give him the first hour or the last half hour, either way he plays some part imo.

Good one mate. I’d start Sturridge and Firmino instead of Ibe as there’s 6 six days in between the EL match, although I think klopp’s lineup is going to look much similar to yours. I’m hoping Flanno gets a game and starts getting some sort of form going as we need backup fullbacks. Klopp’s not going to mess about in the transfer window and I think fullbacks are going to be high on his list so Flanno’s pretty much playing for his future. It’ll be great to see Rafa back at Anfield. No matter how things were before he left, I always have a soft spot for him and ol BR as well. I think the only former manager I don’t really care for is the Manc loving Woy Hodgson..

This has come out of the blue – Sakho has been suspended by the club because he’s failed a drug test. It’s been said it was a fat burning drug and he will not be playing against Newcastle. Liverpool are waiting for the results of a B sample but as off now it looks unlikely he’ll be playing against Villarreal.

I should probably say at this stage there is no official suspension of Sakho by the club or UEFA but the club and player have agreed until this issue is resolved he is not up for selection.

Just on the Sakho subject Kolo Toure when at city failed a similar test , the drug was like it seems with sakho a dietry aid. The charge carries a minimum warning penalty or up to 2 year ban .Toure received 6 months.

The Owners of Everton Football club have asked the FA for special permission to bring Flares to wembley, apparently last time they were there everyone was wearing them 🙄

Half-time and 2-0 up…. don’t sit on your laurels Liverpool… 2-0 is 1-0 these days. Great goals from Sturridge (saw the replay during half-time) and Lallana. Hopefully we’ll add a few more in the second had to increase our goal difference for the PL table and be 2 points behind manure.

Disappointing result… blew the 2-0 advantage to allow them steal a point from us. and we stay at 7th place in the PL. Next stop is Villarreal on Thursday night.

First goal was the keepers fault and that gave them encouragement, while we did not get going till the count an ojo came on but that’s as they say football

Story of our season, i just hope this result and the sakho drug thing dosen’t distract us for the game on thursday night, got to forget both these things now and concentrate 100% on the EL.

It wasn’t as though Lovren and Toure played badly in defence, it’s just the team as a whole didn’t close down Newcastle as quickly in the second half. Newcastle upped their game and took full advantage of the space we allowed them. Something that has become increasingly apparent about Klopp’s style of play is that the players can’t ease off much before its effectiveness drops noticeably, the whole team – not just the defence – must be pressing, starting from the front.

it was a typical Rafa’s team performance in this match, having said that ,Villareal will be a different ball game, hopefully we will have a fit starting XI which can secure a point and an away goal, I don’t think we can come back with a clean sheet…
