There I was, casually browsing through the rankings of players featuring in the 2016 European Championship, when whose name should I see in the top ten – James Milner! God only knows what algorithms they were using to create these rankings but there it is, in black and white, James Milner is the fifth best player in the Euros, based on club and country form. I know this should all be taken with a sizeable pinch of salt but I’ve been trying to persuade people all season that Milner isn’t as bad as many say he is, allow me this brief moment of vindication (I’m not crying, I’ve just got something in my eye).

UEFA Barometer

1. Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal.

2. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Sweden.

3. Antoine Griezmann, France.

4. Dimitri Payet, France.

5. James Milner, England.

6. Saul Niguez, Spain.

7. Koke, Spain.

8. Sergio Ramos, Spain.

9. Toni Kroos, Germany.

10. Juanfran, Spain.

I’m actually speechless, milner the 5th best players at the euro’s, is it april fools day, somebody is having a laugh here, milner is a good PL player but he aint this good lets be honest. Still, if it gives him a confidence boost and he plays better for us next season then happy days i say.

Got the same feeling ,but watching his season in club ,2finals both lost ,and in the 3lions shirt he won all the games 10match 10win . Wish him and others LFC players who are playing in the EURO2016 in France a good and nice Euro ,and back for the preseason safe.

I’ve a lot of respect for Milner, a player who makes the most of his somewhat limited abilities and is a real asset to any team he plays for, but 5th best is crazy. He isn’t even an England starter as a rule. I was wondering if a big part of his score was his work-rate but then I noticed that Ibrahimovic was ahead of him!

Milner should have a baseline of respect from people just for his professionalism and work ethic. He is an excellent role model to all young up and coming pros as well as youngsters who desire to chase that dream (& even those who don’t). So I’ve never understood the haters (if he was a Man U player I’d hate on him because of that, but not for his play).
But he does so many little things to contribute and many of them go unnoticed and are unsung. He just isnt flashy or sexy in how he does it. And he doesn’t bang in goals for fun. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t a top, top player.

Yeah, I read that too. And to be fair, he does work his butt off, even though there might not always be an end product. Plus, he could do with working on his corners. They either don’t get past 1st man, and when they do the goalie’s got it down his throat!.
But…..if it’s going off work rate (miles covered, assists, passes) then yeah, he IS up there!
