Now with the international break I thought about this season so far and it certainly has had it’s ups and downs.  However, now that we’re getting to the business end of the season and we’ve played all of the top 6 sides home and away I am hoping we can finish this season strong and secure a CL spot.

The title is pretty much Chelsea’s at this point and it’s disappointing that they’re running away with it, especially before the new year it looked like we would be giving them a run for it if we kept our first half of the season form but a horror January has seen us fall out and now battling to keep in the top4.  Normally I’d be somewhat confident looking at the remaining games but the lesser sides seem to be our Achilles heel because of how they sit deep and counter so easily.  Our fixtures till end of the season are –

Everton, Bournemouth, Stoke(A), WBA(A), Palace, Watford(A), Soton, WHU(A), Middlesborough.  To me, all winnable games but tough ones are still tough games.  They to the end of the season is players coming back from injury and staying injury free.  We have not had the squad to cope with injuries this season and Mane going to Afcon.  If Coutinho regains his form, with Mane and Firmino and Lallana, we have a formidable fluid attack.  Hendo coming back strong and Can’s recent performances are encouraging.  Hopefully, defensively, Matip stays fit, Mignolet has been good and Lovren is fit again so I’m quietly confident we can end the season really well.  No FA or EFL cup distractions which is disappointing but full on assault on the league is a must.

Hopefully everyone comes back from internationals okay and we have a fully fit and raring squad to go!

We need a few things to go our way in order to get a CL spot, 1) no more injuries to first team players, that has crippled us over the past few months. 2) Our big players to regain their start of season form, coutinho, firmino and clyne to name but a few need to get back to top form. 3) we need other teams to drop some points, manure, spurs and city being the obvious one’s. 4) Our defence has got to tighten up, we’re leaking too many goals.

If all these things happen then we have a very good chance, lets just hope that inconsistency dosen’t come back to haunt us, again.

I think we’ll know by the end of the West Brom game if we are going to make the Champions League. If we have secured 9 or 10 points from the next 4 games then we must be in with a good chance given the other top teams will take points from each other.

One of the reasons why Chelsea have a healthy lead is because Liverpool demolished their competion.
