League cup time again and this time it’s Southampton in the quarter final. Will be a tough game as we edge closer to the final, one to take seriously too, Klopp would love to lift some silverware and we have a realistic chance of this one.

I’ll leave out a team sheet as it’s a tough one to predict. Would like to see Connor Randall get a game to give Clyne a rest, Sturridge may well start and get some much needed match practice, Joe Allen will probably start too.

The game is being shown live on Sky Sports, kick off 7.45pm

Moreno Lovren Skrtel Clyne
Lucas Allen
Coutinho Lallana Ibe
Benteke
We cannot afford to rest Clyne imo , it’s an important game , we can probably rest Clyne and Skrtel against the NCU game. Hendo, Sturridge and Milner can be used from the bench depending on how the game is going. We have to be careful about Southampton set pieces. Hopefully with Count we can get an early goal. Jordan Ibe is looking like an amazing prospect, he has looked better every game, hopefully he gets to play atleast 50 mins and he makes full use of it.

I’d like to see Texeira get a game. He looked really good in the U21’s last week and he can’t play in Europe so why not give him a chance in the League Cup. Best not to play too many youngsters against a strong team like Saints so I would save Randall for the Sion match (and Rossiter who should be match fit by then). It looks like Coutinho will be fit for the Saints so I would start with Texeira, Sturridge and Coutinho up front and if Henderson is fit to start I would include him in midfield.

My main concern is the fitness of clyne and moreno. They’re both young players so I think can take the games but can suffer burn out by end of the season. Soton played on saturday so will have a day extra to rest and prepare. it’s tough to choose the line up but I think Benteke, Lallana, Lucas, Skrtel and coutinho will start. Maybe Sturridge on the bench. He looks very rusty judging from the Swansea game. He didn’t look to work very hard either, poor attitude from him.

It’s a big game against a good team, a semi final awaits at wembly for the winners, klopp will play a very strong team here imo. He’ll want to win this game and progress, as we all do. I would expect/hope that studge, hendo, coutinho and lucas start this game, maybe give skrtel a rest and bring in toure, start lovern as he continues to build on his confidence, i’d like to see bogdan get a start but it looks like klopp prefers a shakey migs right now. Clyne needs a rest so would klopp chance playing randell, can’t think of any cover for moreno. My team for this game would be, bogan randall toure lovren moreno hendo lucas ibe firminho coutinho sturridge We’ve missed hendo and we need to get as many games and goals as we can from studge as its only a matter of time before he breaks down again. We’re much better away from home for whatever reason, i have my theories but that’s for another day. Hoping its settled in the 90 minute’s, can always do without the extra time and pens burden. Away win, 1-2.

My great grandfather used to do a twelve hour shift down the pit, for six days, and then he would get up Sunday morning and play a game of rugby. Need a rest need a rest. Flipping heck, I know the modern game is faster now and they play more games per season, but they get a fortune to play, my grandfather played for fun after working in the pit, and when I say he worked it was in them days hard hard graft, with all the supplements they have now, and the nutritional diet they should be on, a good early night and a good sleep they should ok, but I my be synical about modern players.

Sotom are no push overs, its a tough game and think Klopp will field the strongest he can. Looks like he wants silverware fast and so do the fans. Come January we need backups then some can rest. I also like to see Bogdan start he seems to know how to save penalties

Clyne is on 4 yellow cards so it may make sense to rest him for this game to ensure he is available for Newcastle as one more card would mean a one match suspension. Not sure when the 5 yellows becomes 10 but it can’t be long.

Jamie ,am completely agree with @warrior , LFC cant play a less better team for this 1/4 final against the Saints . Watching the games of last night we had seen all the premier league teams who played had line up their 1st team players ,that’s shows how it is important for all to play fully their chance to reach the last final game to go Wembley. The opponent will do the same as us and they will try to play and win a domestic cup ,Koeman team knows very well how to play against us and knows our weakness so its up to kloppo to put up his best playing tactics to come out with a win out there , just to remind its a knockout game, so LFC must score goals to win and go through the next stage .
My team would be playing solid ,strong ,clever and safe , we know LFC away game is much better so am confident in a good win .
Migs.
Clyne. – Skrtel. – Lovren. – Moreno.
Hendo.- Lucas.- Can.
Lallana.- Sturidge.- Coutinho .
Players could be in the starting line up: Milner,Allen, Firmino, Ibe, Benteke, Origi.

On 2nd thoughts mate, i think your selection will be a lot closer than mine, i put randall and toure in just to give clyne and skrtel a rest but with a semi final waiting for the winners no doubt klopp will play his strongest team available so your line-up makes perfect sense but i do think ibe will start, he’s been the standout player of late.

P.S, are the semi’s played at wembly or is that the fa cup semi’s?? nearly sure it’s the lge cup semi’s and if so an even bigger insentive to win this game.

Huytonian

The League Cup semis are played over 2 legs, home and away. Its the FA Cup semis that are played at Wembley.

warrior18

Of course they are, the fa cup being a bigger trophy, dont know what made me think the lge cup semi’s were played at wembly, 😳 😳 😳

Tough game this one tonight but I’m looking forward to it. We’r moving in to a busy period & games are coming thick & fast but for me I’d play my strongest side tonight. We’r two games away from a final & it would be great to get a day out at Wembley, so I’d go, as klopp would say, ‘full throttle’. Mane & Pelle (if fit) the danger men for me to watch out for, but I can see us causing them enough problems.
Strange thing for me was there was a bit of a nervousness around me when we played at home Sunday but tonight I’m really looking forward to how we will set up & play. I’m hoping for a win in the 90min & I think we’re good for it. YNWA.

Well we will soon have the answer, not longer to kick off now. Hope we get through with out extra time. Place in the semis then a trip to. The bar codes. Come on you red men, YNWA

Liverpool XI: Bogdan, Randall, Skrtel, Lovren, Moreno, Lucas, Allen, Can, Lallana, Origi, Sturridge.

Substitutes: Mignolet, Smith, Henderson, Milner, Ibe, Firmino, Benteke.

I think the only big surprise is Origi starting, he must have done great things in training during the week :o. Still a strong enough team with a strong bench aswell, should be a cracking game.

HAMNUM8

Let’s hope so hey. Don’t think I’ve seen a bench that strong in a while. Southampton have gone with a strong line up. Come on you Redmen

The saints have put out their strongest possible team, big gamble by klopp, hope he’s got it right.

will Sturridge be the 1st ever player to score hattrick in Southampton in reds shirt?

He has yet to score his first hat-trick for us… hopefully that will come soon

Appears there’s a grudge with ex Saints players against Southampton. Lallana’s theatrics is a shame in the 40th minute.
