Hello & Welcome to the Prem Match discussion against the potters at home, I think pretty much everybody is unanimous with the idea of resting a few players for this match, however I would love it if we rest most of them as the Quarter Finals clearly holds more importance but if we can some how pull off a 1-0 victory in this one with keeping the starting XI fit as a fiddle required for Thursday I will be more than delighted. I am going with the Starting XI that I think would be enough to get us 3 points. I heard Emre Can is out because of the yellow cards, please suggest who we can play instead of him ….

I think toure might get the nod at the back instead of illori, i’m also hoping firmino get’s some play time here, not sure on his situation right now. I think seen that there’s four days in between these two matches and the fact there’s no traveling involved allows us to play a strong team against stoke. We still want to win just to boost our confidence ahead of thursday night even though this is a nothing game really for both clubs, could be a dull draw with stoke very much safe and us with one eye on thursday night.

I haven’t given up hope of a Europa place next season so I would play a strong team. I would rest Clyne who has had a lot of games this season and bring in Flanno. I would keep the rest of the back 3 that played at Dortmund. I don’t know if Lucas is fit but if he is I would play him and Allen as the 2 in front of the back 4. Lucas probably can’t play 90 minutes so I would have Stewart on the bench to replace him. If Lucas is not fit I would play Milner there though it’s not his best position. Further forward, if Firmino is fit I would play him in place of Lallana to give him a rest. I would keep Milner and Coutinho and bring in Sturridge up front who will feel he has something to prove. If Milner has to drop back I would like to see Ojo given a chance.

It’s always a hard game against Stoke and a draw would not surprise me.

I’d move Milner back beside Allen in place of the suspended Can. Put Lallana out right in the place you have Milner, and if Firmino is ready stick him in the middle.
Benteke could be a good start against the physical back line of Stoke. He could pound physically while the other three swarm like water bugs

Huytonian

Benteke is out for a few weeks yet. Klopp has hinted that Sturridge will start.

KLOPPite

The other option could be to move Milner as said, and if Firmino isn’t ready put Ibe out right. Give him a chance to rebuild confidence

Tricky one for Klopp. What he doesn’t want to do is lose this match and deflate the atmosphere within the squad before the Dortmund game. Because of that I’d tend to keep a fairly consistent back line and make the changes further forward. By all accounts Lucas is fit so we could see an Allen/Lucas midfield. Sturridge will probably start but there’s a variety of options for attacking midfield so I won’t even guess.

I know it’s the norm now to change players and give players a rest, but there not that many games left, and I’m a bit old school in I would not change a winning formation, unless forced to by injuries or suspension also form but I would always play the inform players,

Realspanishred

My only changes would probably be Allen and a fit Lucas, if Lucas isn’t fit then Stewart. Origi deserves to start, when he plays like Sturridge was then he comes off, which will probably be about the 80th minute. Sturridge for me is either not up to speed or can’t be bothered. Firmino could also start in place of Lallana to give him a rest. I’m the same as Koped49 (old school) so don’t change a winning formula. I’m going for a
2-0 win to the redmen. YNWA

I think we are starting to see a bit of the Klopp stamp on the squad now, which is why I expect a win v Stoke.

Dortmund have rested all but three players in their derby match against Schalke. It’s pretty clear where their priorities are. It’ll be interesting to see how Klopp responds with his team selection.

Huytonian

We’ve rested all but 4. Klopp must have seen Dortmund’s team sheet and decided to do the same. It’s clear from this team where Klopp’s priorities lie. At least I got my wish with Ojo starting. Good luck to him and also to young Stewart. This team will have it’s work cut out against a strong looking Stoke team.

To be honest, I’m more concerned how Skrtel will get on than either Ojo or Stewart. If the defence holds up I feel we’ve still got the creativity and finishing to get goals, even with the replacements.

great Ojo

RedUncle

A lot of people knock Milner but he’s now got 7 goals and 9 assists this season. For a player who does a great deal of defensive work as well those are decent figures for a midfielder.

RedUncle

Make that 10 assists.

Origi has done fantastic but look where Sturridge has been for most of his chances, right in the box ready to finish. Don’t believe the **** that says Sturridge is lazy, he may not always be finishing at the moment but he’s getting into the right areas.

Allen to make way for Lucas

RedUncle

Allen gets a standing ovation as he goes off. Given his recent performances it looks less and less logical to sell him.

lanoisseforp
Member

It would be silly to sell him off at the end of the season.

KLOPPite

He has finally grown (no pun intended) into himself in the red shirt.
How much can we attribute that to Klopp getting out of him when his previous manager who brought him in couldnt?

good easy game.
hope we keep on with good running on Thursday

That’s the result… 4-1 and a double over Stoke in the PL this season. Our goal difference has improved slowly and an outside chance to make it to the top four but realistically it’s not going to happen… but no harm of dreaming?

We can focus on the forth coming against Dortmund at home and the options for this return leg are 0-0 draw to see us advance to the Semi-finals or win by a goal regardless what the outcome of the scoreline is. Next stop Anfield Thursday night.

RedUncle

The main thing was that we didn’t lose, now we go into Thursday full of positivity. The second string players proved they are interchangeable with the first team and that’s a real plus for the remaining games of the season. The only drawback is that our set piece defending is still iffy but hopefully Sakho and Lovren will be a bit more attentive.

lanoisseforp

Off topic post… Manure got hammered at White Hart Lane 3-0 by Spurs and good… Therefore Leicester City has qualified for the CL next season so there are three places up for grabs from now till the end of the season.

RedUncle

Whenever I’ve seen United play this season I’ve always found myself wondering how they’ve managed to get as high in the league as they have. They’re so poor it would be such an injustice if they qualified for Europe.

KLOPPite
Member

I get the same feeling. And how did they do the double on us in the league? Especially the second where we bossed it and they got one shot?!
There wouldn’t be justice for them to be in CL as a top 4, and they’d be a poor representative of the PL in the CL

Huytonian
Member

The only reason they are as high as they are is David DeGea. Without him they would be in the bottom half of the table. He had no chance with the Spurs goals.

Koped49

Great win today, Joe Allen is now a good squad member and should be kept for next season, he has really improved.
And to make it even better today the scum got hammered by the spuds.

Realspanishred

A brilliant result and a great team performance. A special mention to Joe Allen once again he was a terrior in midfield and very good at holding the ball before moving us forward quickly, my motm goes to Joe. Other good performances by Origi, Sturridge, Milner, Moreno and also Stewart did well. 7 changes from the team that played against Dortmund so it bodes well till the end of the season. I thought the ref was a bit lenient with some of their tackles and shawcross should have got a red card for a deliberate kick at Origi. Really looking forward to Thursday now. Come on redmen. YNWA

A couple of months back I think many people would’ve had an idea of who they expected to leave at the end of the season. With the recent resurgence of a handful of players (Allen, Lovren etc) I don’t think it’s quite so easy to choose now.

KLOPPite

Previous two comments, one by Uncle and one by Sandi makes me wonder about one youngster’s future…Ibe.
His displays have been poor most of the season showing a lack of creativity, predictably knocking the ball to the byline trying to beat the defender with his pace, and if he did his final product was usually poor.
Will Ojo’s development signal the end of Ibe at Anfield? Or does he just need a confidence boost in the offseason or a good loan spell?

RedUncle
Member

Going by the impression given by those reporters who tend to get squad information pretty much right Ibe is experiencing something of a crisis of confidence at the moment. Klopp isn’t going to start him in his current state and games are too important now to put him on as a sub if he is going to be ineffective. Much will depend on whether Klopp sees Ibe as a long-term prospect that is worth persisting with. I think Ibe’s future could be in the balance, on the one hand he’s taking up a place in the squad that could be occupied by a more effective player but on the other hand he’s still young and we know Klopp is very good at reinvigorating real talent. It could go either way.

Huytonian
Member

I am very disappointed with Ibe for whom I had high hopes. It’s too early to write him off but he needs a good season next time round as he has not just Ojo but Markovic, Kent, and Canos eyeing up a wide position in the first team.

Koped49
Member

Agree with your sentiment on Ibe, but still he as shown that he as talent, summer break, and some time with the boss will do him the world of good. If Klopp can’t get him back on track then his time will be short live, but think he will pull round as he is still only young and needs experience, which you can only get with time

I cant get enough of ..
divork “The Ice Man”Origi…he is so cool on the ball, even with men all around him he is even cooler when he scores…”Ice Man”!!!!!
Hes gonna be massive for us not just with scoring but with bringing in confidence into the squad..sturridge and Co will all start getting the feel good factor now..
What a Sunday … 4 – to us and 3-0 to Spuds…what a way to start my week……. 😀

Huytonian

Could Origi become our Harry Kane? I’ll believe it when he is scoring week in week out but the signs are good. I gather he’s been working in the gym and he put on so many muscles that they had to give him a bigger size in kit when he came back from his last injury.

We have a striker, a Belgian striker, named Di-vock O-ri-gi

Ibe has apparently wiped all his association with Lfc on his Twitter account so I think there is more to it than just confidence. It’s a shame really he was looking good and most including me thought he would turn out better than Sterling, he might still, but maybe in the wrong way.

RedUncle

Ibe’s also removed his profile picture from Instagram so it looks like things have come to a head with him. Whether it’s frustration over not getting games or he’s been told he’s being moved on I don’t know but things certainly don’t look good.
