I know I said that I would not write a blog until May/June of this year but I just had to write concerning the creeping habit of some people to try to dictate/anticipate Klopp’s transfer policy.  Whoa people, can’t you see what Klopp is doing?  He’s building a squad from the ground up and is taking this year as an opportunity to get to know his squad and get a leg up on the competition for the upcoming transfer window.  Klopp also believes in developing players during training not buying a player for his quality during the transfer window.  Also, he is German and he thinks along liner lines and takes his time in assessing his squad and deciding what type (remember that word) of player(s) are needed to enhance is squad.  Knowing these facts, why is everyone clambering for him to acquire Gotze or any other player.  For one, game changers are a select group and none of the Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez, Levandowski, etc. group are available for us to purchase so that sort of player does not seem to be on the Liverpool transfer menu.  The type of player Klopp is looking for if young, talented, COACHABLE, and reasonably priced.  It is players of this ilk that are needed to add talent and depth to his squad.  If a game changer (present or future) becomes available for Klopp to buy, I am sure he will make a concerted attempt to acquire him, but, such a player is not on his must have list.  The team will, repeat, will progress at a steady, metered pace since Klopp wishes to develop talent up and down the team sheet with at least two quality players available for each position.  Once this is achieved, he will then begin to look for the best player available in the position(s) he feels he needs to make a challenge for silverware.  That means May of 2017/2018 and not before.  Exciting times are coming folks, just have patience and believe.

Got to go, YNWA!

He needs to get a good grip on how the English PL games are played before he can plunge into the quagmire of right player identification and transfers

Klopp has his own agenda for LFC, he will do it his way, no rushing, he will build through out the club not just the first team, he will create a squad of players who can do the jobs he needs them to do, he will do the same with the younger teams so he then creates a production line of talented players for long term sustainability

I think you nailed part of your assessment. He will be methodical analyzing this current squad to make decisions. And while it would have been nice for him to have a preseason, this has been one huge “dry run” for him to figure out the PL before he gets a preseason. Seeing the competition week in, week out. Adding Eirope and two domestic cups. He will understand the English game so much better now then if he came here last summer. And to his benefit most people will give this first season a pass because he had no offseason and none of his players. So he’s benefitted greatly from coming in fall. I do agree he will work things his way. And we’ve seen some moments of brilliance this season with his approach. More of his type of players should bring consistency to the results. Or at least not the roller coaster. But I’m not so sure he can win the PL and have success on other fronts without raising the bar. This isn’t the Bayern München and everybody else Bundesliga. He’s going to need a few of Shanlkys piano players to go along with the others who carry it.… Read more »

Almost as important as who Klopp brings in is who he moves out. There is a lot of dead wood to move on to free up money for replacements and their wages. I agree that we are unlikely to see marquee signings but hopefully those that come in will be an improvement on many of those that our transfer committee has seen fit to purchase in recent seasons. I’m sure Klopp has a good idea of the type of player he wants for his system, and his presence will be a great help in securing their signature. Incidentally I’m looking forward to seeing Danny Ings playing under Klopp – just his type of player.

Ings will be like a whole new signing, for free. I hope he recovers his speed.
Do you have some deadwood in mind?

Enrique, Bogdan and Balotelli definitely come under the heading of dead wood. Perhaps it’s a bit harsh to put some of the others under that heading. Skrtel has been a good club servant but it is time to move him on. Allen is a decent squad player but at his age he needs regular football. Texeira, Yesil and Smith are young players who need to develop elsewhere. I’m not sure about Lucas. I might be tempted to keep him for his versatility. Kolo needs to make way for a younger player – Gomez. Alberto was always a player more suited to Spanish football. I’ve probably missed a couple but that’s a start.

I knew I’d forgotten someone – Benteke. His performances have been forgettable of late and I’m sure he’s on his way. Just doesn’t fir with Klopp’s game though he could do well in other systems.

Even I don’t agree with a complete overhaul, what I notice about EPl especially in the upcoming seasons is that the title race and the fight for top four positions will be stiffer, besides the talent in every position for me it is the winning mentality which will be crucial, your first touch on the ball and pass accuracy should be the same irrespective it is the first minute or the last minute of the game. I watch every game Leicester plays, I think they have won five games now by scoring just one goal in a match, I think Klopp will value attitude more than flair when he is building the squad for the upcoming seasons… interesting times ahead…

I am not saying the current squad does not have the attitude or right mentality, but the style of play is not something that every player is able to handle, as we soon score a goal and lead, we loose possession and the opposition scores, that is something that Klopp needs to work on..

All the teams that you have mentioned consistently win the title in their countries 😕 , I am not saying it’s impossible for an English team to win both EPL and a European Cup, you almost need two starting XI considering the congested fixture list in an English Season

All we want is a PL title once in 4 or 5 years, now is that too unrealistic to ask as a supporter from the Club.. 😕

No. We need to be consistent top four to win the title. Because we need that to build the squad necessary by having the CL carrot.
That is not enough though as Arsenal shows. You can’t just be happy with that and you have to have the winning mentality.
When Arsenal was pushing deep into the CL in mid 2000s they were competing in PL for title. Now that there target has eroded to just being in top 4, their CL performances have eroded to round of 16 exits.
That becomes their identity which should lead to further erosion if Wenger remains.
A cautionary tale
