Well done the U18’s who beat Cardiff last night at Tranmere’s ground 3-0. It wasn’t their best performance against a Cardiff team that was strong in midfield but lacking at both ends of the pitch, but they got the job done easily enough. If you get a chance to see the goals look out for 2 exquisite long balls by Adam Phillips to set up the first two goals, the opener converted brilliantly by my favourite U18 player Ben Woodburn and the second (a free kick) tucked away at the far post by Corey Whelan. The third near the end was a tap in for the American lad Brooks Lennon after good work by Toni Gomes.
The one blot on the evening was a bad ankle injury to Corey Whelan our most experienced player at this level that could have a bad impact on our chances going forward. Our next game in the fifth round is away to Nottingham Forest and it is expected the game will be played at the City Ground which should be exciting for the lads.
