Just a quick word of congratulations for the U18’s after their 2-1 win at the City Ground over Forest last night. It was a hard fought win against a physical and well organised Forest Team. We were ahead at half-time after a superb run down the right by Brooks Lennon who picked out Herbie Kane for the opener. In the second half we came under mounting pressure and Forest deserved their 87th minute equaliser. However the lads picked themselves up and Ben Woodburn set up Adam Phillips for the winner in added time. I was very impressed by Conor Masterson the young Irish centre half who was very composed and made some good tackles and blocks.
This is not the most talented U18 cup side we have had in recent years but it is a very committed group. In previous seasons our youth cup teams have been a mixture of regular U18 players and those who qualify but have moved up to the U21;s. This season we are playing just the regular U18’s even though lads like Ojo, Rossiter, Chirivella and Wilson qualify. Maybe it is because the U21’s have their own cup competition this year. Anyway I don’t expect the lads to get to the final but they are still doing us proud.
