So, after the disappointment of going out of the fa cup we visit villa in the lge. I think villa are all but down now and are maybe just playing for some pride and how they’d like us as a scalp before they wave goodbye to the prem and also revenge seeing we beat them 3-2 at anfield last september. Is this benteke’s first game back at villa park? We know about players scoring when they go back to their old clubs so i’m contemplating putting him in my team, just, although i do think, at times, he seems to do better coming on from the bench.

Onto my team, i think clyne will come back in, as will lovren and sakho, i would like to see smith keep his place but i feel klopp will choose moreno, for whatever reason. I think studge has to start and firmino, coutinho as well. Ward must be pulling his hair out at this stage looking at the howlers migs is having so i’m going to put ward in, klopp has to give him a start sometime so why not against the team that’s at the foot of the table. My team for this game would be,

ward

clyne   sakho  ?  moreno

lucas

Can   hendo

firmino   studge   coutinho

I put allen in as he’s on a good run of form lately. Not fully up to date on injuries but if all are fit and well then this team should be too strong for villa imo, famous last words.

Just seen that allen is out so i put Can in and lovren apparently is gone as well but we have a few choices for that possition, toure, llori and caulker so i left a blank there.

I’m not sure if Lovren is fit so Kolo could play. Smith did well at West Ham but he was struggling with a knock or cramp at the end so I would expect Moreno to return. I would also expect Can to play. Benteke played 120 minutes at West Ham so I wouldn’t expect him to start but he is likely to come off the bench and hopefully he can end his goal drought against his old club..

Just to add to the above I’ve read Lovren, Smith and Allen are out, though Lovren should be back for Augsburg.

Would it be outrageous to suggest Sakho and Ilori in defence? I’ve been impressed by how quietly effective young Ilori is, he may not be flamboyant but he doesn’t make gaffes either. He’s had a number of games in the first team now, looked solid in all, so it wouldn’t be a big gamble to give him a go. I wouldn’t be adverse to Caulker playing, his height would be useful and that may be why Klopp opts for him, but I like the fact Ilori has got some games under his belt now and is in a bit of a rhythm.

I’m having second thoughts about Sakho Uncle. He’s slower than many quick feet strikers of the other PL teams and have been caught off guard many times before. A class example is when Daniel Defoe turned him to score Sunderland’s equalizer. And other examples in recent games before. However his strong points is his long distance incisive pass but that’s when all is going well. Also I don’t think other players take advantage of his passes often enough. Everytime they are at the receiving end of a long Sakho pass, they hesitate and pass backwards or sideways instead of launching quick attacks when the defenders are offguard and unprepared.

Scum lost 2-1 to Sunderland!
And they did that imwithout Adam Johnson. If only his court issues would have happened a couple weeks early and developed before our match.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Scum were the Judge, Jury and Executioner to have him out before their game today. Either way they lost and that makes me happy.

I’d have Ward in for this game and it’s about time for him to stand in between the sticks and it’s no point have him rotting on the bench after a successful loan. We need to win this game because Chelsea are close to our tails as they hammered the Toon today 5-1.

We are desperately in need of a solid win, they desperately in need of points. For them, it’s the best time to play us and for us, it’s probably the worst as they are unbeaten for quite a few games, 5 or 6 i think. we’re sandwiched between a rare occurrence where the current top4 play themselves. I hope we can turn around our rotten form.

Sorry guys I have been really depressed with our results lately so I haven’t posted lately. I have been ok with our performance and work rate but not results. I am back on top of it now. With Sturridge and Cou back I’m going to say we will put away most of. the chances we create and I’m confident we will win comfortably. 4-1 to the reds. I would like to see Stewart as dm but I’ve lost confidence in Can for now so I’m struggling to find a team with the correct balance. I’ll leave that to Klopp.

It looks like in their attempt to scout our weaknesses in defending set pieces and crosses, they picked up a few of our blunders 😎

Been working today not happy but I am now seeing we’r 2 up. So good to have DS back.

lanoisseforp

That ends the first half 2-0 in favor of us. We need to add a few more goals to account in the second half. I won’t relax by being 2-0 up and it’s the new 1-0 lead plus I don’t want a Sunderland come back repeat.

Not that we are in a position where it matters yet, but if we make a run to a European spot Goal Difference might be a factor.
Making such a run will help our GD, but piling on versus the likes of Villa are needed

I never realized Sturridge is so lazy. He really needs to pass it quicker, I’m not complaining about his goal but for us being sloppy this game could have been sewn up..

KLOPPite

I thinking he’s playing hesitantly, pacing himself as he feels a little gingerly about himself yet. At least I hope

Realspanishred

We really have still been quite sloppy in some of our play, but we are 2 up because Villa are woeful but that could change in the second half. Let’s just score another couple and finish the game off please.

3 points behind the ***** now if we can’t make top 4 our goal should purely be to finish above those cnuts.

this is the biggest ever win for Liverpool against Villa on away game.

lanoisseforp

That’s the full-time 6-0 to us. I won’t take pleasure of riling up the Villa Supporters because we were a butt end when we got hammered by Stoke last season.

The most important part of this result we have gained three points and altered our goal difference from minus 4 to plus 2. We are in 8th place with 38 points and let’s hope we can continue our winning run and most of all knock manure of their 5th place perch.

It’s nice to see Kolo finally scored his first goal and even better when a free header is converted. Next 2 stops are to FC Augsburg away and home before the big one against Man City.

That’s better yoo hoo great win. I never realized Origi is so quick and good in the air. Kudos to all today that’s what happens when we are all singing from the same hymm sheet. +ve goal difference as well. Apparently that’s our first clean sheet when Kolo and Sakho have played together.

Great win today, just goes to show when we have a front player who has pace what we can do, and when we took studge off, we put on Origi who also has pace, pace it just frightens defenders. And to round off a good weekend the scum lost to fat SAMs boys, and they took the kick out of us for drawing with them. Hay ho yes.

RedUncle

I think that’s the first time this season we almost put out a proper full strength side and boy doesn’t it show. That front line and midfield is up there with the top four or five in the league, in my opinion. What’s really frustrating with results like this is you wonder how we’d have done against tougher opposition. Even if you’d half the goals to compensate that’s still three so I reckon if we can keep this line-up fit we could go on a late charge and at least challenge United.

Thanks to the Villa supporters who showed solidarity to LFC Anfield fans with their own walkout. Looked like half their fans had left by the 77th minute

Easy to get inflated opinions of ourselves but we should temper enthusiasm by remembering how dreadful of an opponent we played. They might be happy to be mid-table Championship side.
What we can be happy about though is return of Sturridge and Courinho and their positive affect on the game/team. So many different players getting on the score sheet and the confidence they will take. And a clean sheet.
I’d say replacing Kolo with Skrtel and that would be our desired First XI going forward.

I think today was more a case of Villa being so poor vs us being 6-0 good. Although I did think we played well enough for the win and definitely win well. Hopefully this is the result that can be the foundation to go and build results and somewhat save some face for the poor season.

What I found really encouraging was the sheer number of effective supply lines going to the forward – Coutinho, Firmino and Milner behind the striker, Henderson and Can behind them, and Clyne and Moreno out wide. We had so many creative routes of play and for once we had the strikers, Sturridge and Origi, to be the last link in the chain. When Brendan Rodgers brought all these players together I imagine this was the kind of fluidity he wanted to see at some point.

It’s a funny old game! I thought we played better against West Ham but of course the Hammers are a much better team than the dire Villains. It’s great to have Sturridge and Coutinho back but the biggest plus point for me , given Sturridge’s injury record, was the performance of Origi when he came on. He looked well short of fitness at West Ham but today he held the ball up well, showed great movement and of course took his goal well. Look out Benteke! So if Sturridge does get injured again, and I was waiting for him to sit down with the subs before breathing a sigh of relief, we have a player who potentially could provide a very capable replacement.

I’m meeting up with my Villa mate on Tuesday but I’m so sorry to see a great club in such dire straits that I feel I’ll have to be kind to him.

We played well against West Ham, but we never had the kind of strikers we had today, they have pace and they run into the right areas, which creates room not only for themselves but others as well, we had a front line with secondary forwards backing up , and as already been said midfield rear line with wide runners from full back, which coupled with a press, take some of the heat away from our rear guard. It will be nice to see what happens when we play a team near the top of the PL. and all done with no Allana, skertel or Lucas, things can only look up. And next season we will have Ings and Gomez back, flano, smith and already we have a good squad again, also guric to come in. Then there’s all the young guns, don’t know how we will keep them all happy, all of a sudden our squad is big at last.

I read this morning that Liverpool have had 19 scorers this season and they’re currently the top scorers in the league for 2016. Given our form this season, and the form of other clubs, I find this quite astonishing.

Huytonian
Member

It’s hard to believe we’re the top scorers in 2016 given the problems we have scoring at home. I guess the 5 at Norwich and the 6 at Villa give us the edge. I don’t think many teams will have scored more away goals this season as we also got 4 at City and 3 at Chelsea. The 19 different scorers is partly down to our injuries and fixture congestion which has provided opportunities for our youngsters. Credit to them that they have taken those chances.

Actually felt sorry for Villa. We were inspired, and they weren’t anywhere to be seen.
But we’ve shown that we CAN score goals. we just need to do it more often
