It seems Klopp the club is looking to close the case on the flaws of Mignolet by rewarding him with a new contract. Something of a surprise which will be reluctantly accepted by many fans.

Personally I’d be happy for him to stay and work on putting his issues right, overall he’s a good young keeper and with a bit more protection in front of him will become a solid no. 1 in the future.

Danny Ward was recalled this week after starring for Aberdeen this season. I have some friends quite close to Danny with him being from my local town, he is highly rated and a good guy. Much has been said about his presence on the pitch, something lacking with Mignolet.

I can only guess Ward will have been brought back to replace Bogdan and really push Mignolet for the number 1 spot. With good coaching and healthy competition this could be a less uncertain position in the team which would benefit throughout.

What I like about Danny ward is, when I have seen him playing for Aberdeen is he commands his area, uses his voice and generally bosses the box, which all great keepers do, he is a good positional keeper also. Mignolet is a good shot stopper, but as to learn how to command his box, catch the ball some times instead of punching it moss of the time. I think most of the fans have now lost any faith in Bogdan.think Danny ward will be a good keeper for us in the near future. But the club must rate migs if they are going to give him a new five year contract.

I wasn’t impressed with Ward when he first joined the Club but he has really improved especially in the last 18 months. I’m not sure if he was registered in time for the Exeter replay but I guess he may be given a chance against West Ham if we progress . I hope he is given games with the U21’s because one of Bogdan’s problems must be a lack of match sharpness when called upon.

How can Migs be so bad, I’m sure he wasn’t this bad before we bought him. He made the same mistake as Bogdan tonight, although I can’t believe we don’t put players on the post. Migs is so bad at commanding his box. He has done nothing to warrant a new contract imo. I haven’t seen young Ward but if he commands his box that’ll do for me.

Guys we have no one commanding yard box thats a problem. And tat is causing missunderstands between keeper and back line at least.
Bogdan sorry but he is not even for division.
Migs needs to work his decision making and then hell be one of our best.
And of vourse strong personallity for CB.

Are we being too hard on Migs. If you were an Arsenal fan would you be happy with Cech’s contribution, I know I wouldn’t, our first goal Can’s shot from outside the box was straight and at a good height for any goalkeeper, imo Cech made a meal of it and palmed it straight out to Firmino (who took the chance well). Our second goal was a touch of class from Firmino and I’m not so sure he could have done much about it. Our third from wee Joe was once again quite soft and maybe Cech should have done better. So by my reckoning we gave them 2 and they gave us 2. Also their defending was as bad as ours, maybe we shouldn’t be as critical as we are and just accept it was one of those games.

My problem with mignolet is he gets bullied on every set piece & his decision making, for example coming for crosses or not, is poor. He can be a fantastic shot stopper but how nice would it be to have a GK that can just pluck things out the air & actually look like a commanding figure between the sticks. I’ve watched a few clips on ward but that’s about it so I suppose I will just have to wait for his chance,to pass judgment.

I agree with most here the defense need to take some responsibility for Migs getting bullied, I see him lots of times being boxed in by the opposition he needs help to create a route to the ball.

The Mignolet situation is a strange one to me. On the one hand most LFC supporters will tell you he’s useless but on the other hand he had the most PL clean sheets in 2015. It’s hard to work out how these two statements co-exist and yet they do. I think what it does suggest is that Mignolet’s form ebbs and flows, probably in line with his confidence, and we as supporters tend to have his bad times impressed upon us more strongly than his good times. The best things Mignolet does are when he’s not thinking, when he’s acting on instinct, it’s when he has to decide things he sometimes falls down. This is why managers continue to keep faith with him, I believe, because decision-making is a coachable skill unlike instincts. One thing we shouldn’t forget is that Mignolet has had ever changing centrebacks and that makes making decisions, like when to come off your line, more difficult. When you have the same centrebacks over a period you get a feeling for how they are going to react in a situation, both with regard to the other centreback and the keeper. With such an unsettled defensive line-up it’s… Read more »

I think you should all ask yourself one question, would Mignolet be your first choice. For me its a priority we sign a proven replacement.

Ward commanded his area well for the U21’s last season. I can’t comment on his time with Aberdeen as I didn’t see the games and the match reports were all about his saves. The question is whether he would be so commanding against Premier League opposition. I hope he gets a chance to show what he can do possibly against West Ham if we progress in the FA Cup.
