I love pen shootouts but not when it’s our club involved, thankfully we got through, never do things the easy way do we. Have to say, i’m very disappointed that everton didn’t make it through, i was praying for an all merseyside final, would have been fantastic and a great occassion for the city but unfortunately it was’nt to be.

On to the FA Cup and a visit to anfield from westham who are doing very well in the lge and to whom we owe one too bigtime, would love us to knock them out but like all our games now it’s another tough one and only tough because of our shocking defending, we know we can score goals we just need to stop leaking so many.

On to the team. Great to see flanno back against stoke and thought he done well for a guy who’s been out for 18months but seen that he started against stoke i don’t think he’ll start this game but definitely be on the bench. I would like to see smith get a start here and drop moreno, i’ve never rated moreno tbh and i think klopp might try and off-load him this summer. Seen that lovren was on the bench against stoke i’m thinking he’ll get a start here as to will allen and benteke. Not too sure about the fitness of clyne but if he’s out then randall will more than likely step in for him, will ward get a start here i wonder, not sure why we brought him back from his loan if we don’t play him in the cups, anyway, my team for this game would be this,

ward

randall  toure  lovren  smith

brannagan       allen

ibe        teixiera      ojo

benteke

A few changes there i know but we have a really big lge game a few days later against leicester, who, let’s face it, are going for the title now and we’re away to them so a really tough one that, like they all are for us now. We owe the hammers one and the same game and result as the final in 06 would be very nice indeed.

In some ways getting to Wembley in the league cup takes the pressure off this game. I think a few legs will need a rest after Wednesday and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Flanagan, Toure, Moreno, Henderson, Lallana, Can and Firmino all dropping out. I would like to see Ward start – he must be an improvement on Boggy. Smith and Texeira could well feature along with Randall if Clyne doesn’t make it.

This will be a really difficult game against a good West Ham side but it’s the Cup and anything can happen. But please no more replays!

I don’t know warrior about Moreno, I personally like him, I know his foul was utter rubbish, but his pace and shot power is not utilized well yet, Moreno himself has lot to blame for his under performance, he can track back quickly, he can win tackles, Klopp does not have enough time right now , you never know one good pre season with players like Moreno, Ibe , Lallana and other string of under performers, I wonder do we really need to break the bank and get in a lot of players….

The only genuine replacements IMO should be Sturridge for fitness sake only and Benteke purely for not fitting in the system….

Sandiphulse you’re having a laugh with Moreno, I personally like the guy but he has been at fault for a lot of goals recently. I think he has been the reason people say Sakho has been poor, when he’s not. Moreno needs a preseason with a defensive coach imo, his positioning is very poor, imo he would be better as a wing back. Back to this game. I think we will definitely need Cline for this one and with a bit of luck Lovren in for Toure who has been good but played a lot recently. Smith for Moreno, so my team would be Ward, Cline/Flanno I don’t think Randall is good enough yet, Lovren/Toure, Sakho, Smith,Lucas, Hendo, Allen, Ibe, Benteke, Lallana.

I was actually quite impressed with Benteke when he came on against Stoke, I felt he made some good runs and also held the ball up quite well.

His play outside the box was pretty good but his movement in and around the box is still very poor. Too often instead of getting to the far post he is to be found on the near side. It may be he’s given up hope of ever getting a far post ball so he’s not entirely to blame but for £32 million we could expect a lot better. We shouldn’t write him off though – it’s still much too early for that.

Realspanishred

I agree mate about not writing him off yet. It’s not looking like we will get Teixiera now so it will be much the same now until the end of the season. I hope Benteke will take his chances, he is much better than he has been showing up until now. I think he needs someone closer to him and running off his headers etc..

Because Benteke is so big and imposing people tend to think he’s very confident but there’s a lot in his body language and play that is reminiscent of Torres and Carroll when they hit poor patches. A common theme between all three is that they focus(ed) more on playing a part in the build up play than the shooting because they aren’t/weren’t confident enough to take their shots unless they felt certain it’d go in. Benteke won’t improve until he feels he has the freedom to shoot without repercussion, ie until he’s not afraid of the world coming down on him should he miss. Players without confidence don’t take risks but the majority of goals are the result of risk-taking.

I don’t what that delusional transfer committee was thinking when they got him , the kind of strikers we had were torres suarez etc…. , he is available for our price , so let’s get and see what happens, not BigBen’s problem, having said that BigBen won’t get a better opportunity, if he can adapt and perform , good for him…. LFC is big club we will move on and get the players we want…..

Randall? He scares me. I’d rather see Flanno out right and bring in Smith for LB is we are gonna work youngsters in. Besides Smith has looked far more impressive and is more deserving imo

Tricky one to pick the line up on this one but I’d definitely start Benteke because I thought he did ok when he came on & his penalty showed he’s not lacking in confidence which everyone assumes, add to that he’ll be a lot fresher so he must start for me. West Ham are a strong side & will put out a strong side so it will be a tough game I’ve no doubt about that. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Lovren return, plus I’d put smith in for Moreno because he is really annoying me lately with his stupid decision making. Hard to call this one but please no replay.

From the press conference it looks like Caulker and Lovren will be our central defensive partnership and Hendo will be rested along with several others from the Stoke game.

Klopp on team selection: “It will be another young side. It will be a different team for sure. Some players covered 17km in that last game.” Henderson out, Sturridge out, Coutinho out. I can’t see Flanagan playing, nor Kolo, so Lovren could well play. Good chance Allen and Benteke could start, I would’ve thought.

I’m going for Ward, Cline, Lovren, Caulker, Smith, Lucas, Allen, Branagan, Ibe, Benteke, Texeira. At least that’s the team I’d like to see.

Liverpool XI: Mignolet, Clyne, Lovren, Caulker, Smith, Stewart, Allen, Brannagan, Teixeira, Ibe, Benteke.

Substitutes: Ward, Enrique, Ilori, Randall, Chirivella, Ojo, Sinclair.

Joe Allen is Captain today… come the reds

My patience with Ibe is wearing thin. he gives the ball away very easily, passing isn’t great, very poor decision making when he’s on the ball, predictable runs and holds onto to it too long, can’t turn or cross. No sign of improvement from him…

Yep needs another loan if you ask me.

looks like Slaven Bilic put strong squad on. they definitely want to make 3rd win in a row over LFC.

Been impressed with Brannagan though! popping up in good spaces, looks confident on the ball. he has his head up and has put some decent balls in thus far. Texeira showing some good technical skills and vision too

possesion 47 to 53%, but 6-3 in favour of Liverpool. corners also 4-1 for LFC.
so far just 1 shot on target, where keeper had to make a save. unlucky Brannagan.
faith for 2nd half

some players have been goal shy. Benteke should be doing better. I hope we don’t get to rue these missed chances.

poor finishing, we should have been easily 2 or 3 goals up.
however replay again.
Benteke looks unable to convert anything he’s involved.

credit to young lads, they played much better than the old and experienced must say.

lanoisseforp

That’s it full time… after a scramble at their end we could had at least put it in. Their header that hit the post was nerve wrecking and poor defending… thankfully the upright saved us for another day. Back to Upton Park for another 90 minutes. I was impressed with the kids and they have to be tested in the PL soon Brannagan was immense today. Next stop at Leicester.

Considering we made ten changes and were up against a stronger team I think we did well, certainly did everything but put the ball in the net. When you’re forcing a triple save from a keeper you’re doing something right. We just lacked that instinctive finisher, too often we were hesitant in the box.

Realspanishred

I really have given up on Benteke he really needs to find another club. We could easily have won that by 2 or 3 goals, he could also have squared it to Tex for an easy finish. I give up.The young lads deserve a lot of credit. Branagan is class. What on earth was Klopp playing at with the subs. Enrique really what was Klopp doing.

Huytonian

The young players did themselves proud against an experienced West Ham team, especially Brannagan and Stewart (surprised Stewart was not suspended after being sent off against Spurs U21’s on Monday). If we had a striker in form we would have won. I’m not too bothered about the extra game as it will be another changed team, but maybe a chance for some of our currently injured players to get some game time (Origi, Sturridge, Coutinho and Skrtel).

Realspanishred

I’m with you Huytonian regarding the extra game hopefully all four of your returning players will play a part in the replay although I very much doubt one of them will. The same team as played yesterday would suit me,with the exception of Benteke and Ibe, I would swap them for Ojo and Firmino.
