Why is the club lollygagging about when it comes to Can’s contract?  It feels like there is more to this than is being reported.  What does it take to re-sign a player (and an important one) to a contract extension?  A few amicable meeting with his representatives, a decent raise to signify his importance at LFC, and the contract is done!  It’s that simple … or is it?  If there is a complication that needs to be ironed out with Can?  Whatever is the problem overcome it or sell him this summer!  This is beginning to look like Can gets to leave on a free and the LFC admin gets to bewail the lack of loyalty in today’s youth!  Can – Liverpool, Solanke – Chelsea.  The similarities are too striking to ignore.  Waiting to start negotiations until the start of the season, because you ‘believe we have a good relationship’  with Can, can backfire and kick you where the sun don’t shine.    Why is Can taking an extra 2 weeks (shades of last year) to arrive at Melwood?   Understand about the Confed Cup but everyone else is here getting ready for the new season.  I may be imagining things, but the look and feel of this situation is disturbing, to say the least.

I will be shocked if Can dosen’t sign a new contract mate, i’m sure he’s very much in klopp’s plans for next season and beyond. Can was starting to show some really top for at the end of last season, form that i didn’t think was there to be honest but he looked a beast at times so i’m sure klopp won’t be letting him go anywhere.

There is no way Klopp wants to lose Can. However Can wants regular first team football. He was getting it at the end of last season with Henderson injured but will he get it this season with Henderson hopefully fit again and Coutinho moving back into midfield in all probability? So he may be waiting to see how the season pans out before putting pen to paper. I wouldn’t read anything into his late return to training as this will have been agreed with the medical team – the Confederation Cup has only recently finished. However it does mean he will be playing catch up with his team mates in terms of match fitness.

It seems to be the same old problem – how do you retain more top players than there’s room on the pitch for? The situation isn’t being helped by the time it’s taking Liverpool to complete transfers this window. The likely starting eleven will not be entirely clear to Can at the moment which may be why he’s holding back on a decision.
