The pre-season games are coming thick and fast.  Wigan have been on a bit of a roller coaster the last few seasons, being demoted from the Premier League and then from the Championship, to  which they have just returned after winning League 1 last season. I have a bit of a soft spot for Wigan as I remember my Dad taking me to their old Springfield Park ground to watch them play my local team Prescot Cables in the old Lancashire Combination back in the late 1950’s.  Wigan have been on an amazing journey since those days (sadly Prescot haven’t).

This game should be more of a challenge than Tranmere or Fleetwood and maybe Kaius will get some goalkeeping practice.  One player who should return for Liverpool is Coutinho who has been training now for a few days.  Otherwise I would expect the same players to feature as against Fleetwood with maybe young Ben Woodburn to miss out (though I hope not).  If Markovic plays it will be a big game for him as he has done little so far to suggest he should be part of Klopp’s squad for the coming season.    Klopp wasn’t happy with the first half team against Fleetwood and I would expect to see a response from some of our more senior players.

I know pre-season is all about fitness levels and intergrating new players into the team but i want us to keep on winning, it builds a winning mentality and builds confidence. Klopp has said pre-season is not all about winning and i can see it from his point of view but for us supporters all we want to see is LFC winning every game.

Friends totally agree with your says but am a bit disappointed with the sparing partners level ,was expected as klopp to have a better opponents but for a footing and team spirit is good .When all players will be back ,with a full squad the level will go higher and the team will be more competitive physically .

I think you touch on it. We knew most of team would be gone at Euros or Copa so play some lighter teams to get in the groove and give main guys chance to return. Plus with the conditioning program we are instituting we don’t want to overdo it early and risk injury
